From the airport or station to the city

Where you land, the ways into the city centre, how long each takes and what it costs.

From Yanji Chaoyangchuan Airport (YNJ)

延吉朝阳川国际机场

  • TaxiTime15–25 minCost¥20–40

The airport is only about 5 km west of the city centre. Taxis and DiDi wait outside arrivals. There are direct flights from Seoul Incheon and other Korean cities as well as from Beijing, Shanghai and other Chinese cities.

From Yanji West Station (high-speed rail)

延吉西站

  • TaxiTime20–30 minCost¥20–35

High-speed trains from Changchun, Jilin, Shenyang and Beijing, and from Changbaishan Station, arrive here, about 7 km west of the centre. Taxis and DiDi wait outside; city buses also run into town.

From Changbaishan Station (for Changbai Mountain)

长白山站

  • TrainTime60–100 minCost¥60–100

The station is in Erdaobaihe town, the base for the North Slope. High-speed trains link it with Yanji West (about 1–1.5 hours) and, since September 2025, with Shenyang North (about 2 hours) and Beijing Chaoyang (about 4.5 hours). Book with your passport on 12306 or Trip.com.

Getting around

Yanji is the capital of the Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture: signs are in Chinese and Korean, and many people speak Korean, but little English. The centre is compact; taxis and DiDi are cheap, and buses cost ¥1–2 (route 43 runs to Mao’ershan and the Korean Folk Garden). Longjing (Yun Dong-ju’s birthplace, Ilsongjeong) and Tumen on the North Korean border are 20–40 km away: take a taxi or hire a car for half a day. Changbai Mountain is about 200 km south-west: take the high-speed train from Yanji West to Changbaishan Station (about 1–1.5 hours) and stay a night in Erdaobaihe, or fly into Changbaishan Airport for the West Slope. Jilin province, including Yanji and Changbai Mountain, is NOT in the 240-hour visa-free transit stay area (NIA list of 24 provinces, as of 20 August 2026), so you need a visa or another visa-free entitlement to come here. This is a border region: carry your passport at all times, and do not photograph border posts, soldiers or military sites.
