The blue Tianchi crater lake and its jagged rim seen from the West Slope

Changbai Mountain West Slope (1,442 steps to Tianchi)

长白山西景区(天池西坡) · Chángbái Shān Xī Jǐngqū (Tiānchí Xīpō)

The wider, face-on view of Tianchi: from the end of the shuttle road you climb 1,442 steps (about 900 m) to the rim beside a China–North Korea boundary marker. Lower down are the Jinjiang Grand Canyon, Ladder River and alpine flower meadows.

Booking requiredBring your passportA full day (5–7 hours on the mountain)
Tip

Take it slowly: the steps start at about 2,000 m and the air is thin. The rim has a boundary marker with North Korea, and the border runs through the lake: stay on the Chinese side of the railings, follow staff instructions and do not photograph guards or border installations.

Opening hours
Open all year. Summer 2026 notices: tickets checked 07:30–13:30 at the visitor centres; Jinjiang Grand Canyon open until 17:00 (until 30 September). Shorter hours from November to April, and the summit often closes for weather. To be confirmed
Price
Entry ¥105 + compulsory eco shuttle bus ¥85 (the walk up the 1,442 steps is free). A line bus from the Baixi or Chixi transport hubs to the gate costs ¥14–19. In winter, a snowmobile ride to the summit is about ¥165.
How to book
Same system as the North Slope: real-name tickets on the official “长白山” WeChat account or mini-program, up to 7 days ahead, with your passport; one set per slope within 7 days; free refund on the day if unused. Could not get tickets? Tell us what you need
Getting there
The West Slope is entered from Fusong County (Baishan). Easiest is to fly into Changbaishan Airport (NBS), close to the west side, and stay in the Chixi or resort area. From Erdaobaihe, two daily buses run from the Chibei bus station to Chixi (¥26), or hire a car (about 1.5–2 hours). To be confirmed
