The short version

You can use Zouzou without an account. We do not sell your data, we do not show ads that track you, and we keep what we collect to a minimum.

On this website

We store one cookie that remembers your language. We count visits with our own analytics on our own server: no analytics cookies, no third parties, no advertising IDs. For each page view we record the page, the language, the website that linked to us (domain only), your country (from our network provider) and broad categories of device, browser, operating system and screen size. We do not store your IP address or your full browser details: they are only combined with a value that changes every day to make an anonymous visitor number, so we can count visitors per day but cannot recognise you on another day. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we do not count you. In our apps we count which main screens are opened (for example a city page, never what you type) with the app language and version, and one app open per day with a random number created on your device. None of this is linked to your account, and you can turn it off in Me › Privacy. Detailed records are kept for 400 days, after that only daily totals. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, for security.

If you create an account

An account is only needed to post in the community. We store your email address, the display name you choose and what you post. Sign-in codes are sent by our email provider, Resend. To check posts against our rules and to translate them for readers in other languages, the text and photos of your posts (not your email) are processed by an AI service, DeepSeek, whose servers are in China. Posts you publish are public. You can delete any post, and deleting your account in the account page removes your account, posts and photos for good; backups are overwritten within 14 days.

In the app

Your location is used on your phone to find places nearby and is not sent to us, except when you add a new place and choose “I am here now”: then the coordinates of that place are saved with it and shown publicly. Menu photos are read on your phone and are not uploaded. Speech and translation run on your phone. Saved cities and trips stay on your phone.

Reading a menu from a photo

When you use the menu photo reader on the website or in the Android app, the photo is sent to our server, which removes its location and camera data, shrinks it, and sends it once to the AI service DeepSeek to read the text. We do not store the photo, and it is not linked to your account. (The iPhone app reads menus on the phone itself and sends nothing.)

Likes, comments and saved items

When you are signed in, we store which posts you like and what you save for later, so they are the same on every device. The number of likes on a post is public; who liked it and what you saved are not shown to anyone else. Comments are public posts and follow the same rules and checks as other posts. Deleting your account deletes all of this.

Videos you post

Videos you add to a post are uploaded to our server, which converts them to a standard format and removes all metadata, including location. A few still frames are checked by the AI service DeepSeek against our rules. The converted video and a cover image are stored with your post and are public once the post is published; the original file is deleted right after conversion. Deleting the post or your account deletes the video.

Search in any language

When you search for a place and our built-in dictionary does not know the words, we send only the words you typed and your language (not your location or account) to our server, which asks the AI service DeepSeek for the Chinese search term. We keep the query and the answer so the next person asking the same thing gets it instantly.

Email updates

If you subscribe to rule-change alerts or trip reminders, we store your email address, your language and, if you give it, your travel date. We send nothing until you confirm by tapping the link we email you. Emails are sent through Resend. Every email has an unsubscribe link; when you unsubscribe we delete your address. Ticket-release reminders work the same way; we delete the address two weeks after the visit date. If you ask us for booking help, we keep your request and email for up to 180 days, only to reply to you and to understand demand.

Links to other services

When you follow a link to another service, such as a booking site, a map app or an official website, that service’s own privacy policy applies.
