From the airport or station to the city

Where you land, the ways into the city centre, how long each takes and what it costs.

From Qingdao Jiaodong Airport (TAO)

青岛胶东国际机场

  • MetroTime50–70 minCost¥7–9

The airport is far out, about 40 km from the old town. Metro Line 8 to Qingdao North Station, then Line 3 to Qingdao Railway Station for Zhanqiao and the old town. Line 8’s southern extension to Wusi Square (May Fourth Square) is due to open around late September 2026; check the station signs, it may now run straight through.

  • TaxiTime50–70 minCost¥130–160

Official rank outside arrivals. Traffic on the bridge and expressway can add time at rush hour.

From Qingdao North Railway Station

青岛北站

  • MetroTime35–45 minCost¥4–5

Most high-speed trains from Beijing and Shanghai arrive here. Metro Line 3 south to Qingdao Railway Station for the old town, or Line 1 toward the south. Some trains also terminate at Qingdao Railway Station, right in the old town: check your ticket.

Getting around

Qingdao stretches along the coast. The old German town (Zhanqiao, the Catholic Cathedral, Signal Hill) sits by Qingdao Railway Station; Badaguan and the beaches are a few kilometres east, and May Fourth Square is further east again. Metro Lines 2 and 3 connect them all, and the seafront promenade is a lovely long walk. DiDi and taxis are easy. Laoshan is about an hour away by car and takes a full day.

Book these before you fly

These sights need a reservation with your passport. Walk-ups are usually turned away.
